Gonvick School District # 21 opened for the first time in November of 1911. School was held in the Opera House above the Martin Quern Store. The first high school building was constructed in 1927-1928 with the first graduating class in 1928.
Trail School was built in 1897 with Mr. Schneider as the first teacher. The week before Christmas was an especially fun time. Each room put on a play and between practicing you could "chew gum" and read "comic books", forbidden at other times of the school year!
School District # 25, Clearbrook, was organized about 1906. The first school house was built and still stands just north of the Hartz store. The first 8th grade graduation was held in 1912. By 1915 a new 8 room school (4 rooms upstairs and 4 downstairs) was built. The first high school building was constructed in 1922-1923 with the first class graduating in 1924.
District #45, Greenwood School was begun in 1901. The neighborhood men erected a log building on the north side of the Greenwood-Leon Township line, on what is now the Truman Sandland farm. Before the beginning of school in the fall of 1904, the log schoolhouse was moved from its original site to a small piece of land, donated by Jacob Nilson, on the south bank of the Clearwater River across from the Ole Jacobson home. In 1922 a new schoolhouse was built just to the east of the log building. In 1941 a bus route was begun to transport high school students to Clearbrook. Consolidation with Clearbrook occurred in 1954.

The Berner School District # 29 was built around 1900 and closed in 1951. Norwegian and Luthernism was taught for 6 weeks during several of the summers. Today the new Berner School is used as the Windsor Town Hall and sits at the intersection of Hyw. 7 & 10.
The Bolstad School District # 6 also called East School of Sec. 27 Hangaard Township was in operation from about 1900 to 1936. Echo Malberg was the first teacher. The "sister" school was the Meadow View or West, which operated until 1946. It was located a little over 2 miles northwest with a big swamp in between.
District # 36, the Wolden School, was located in Sec. 30 of Pine Lake Township. It was founded on July 14, 1900 and consolidated with Gonvick in 1942. Students would often meet at "Crazy Corner" and walk to school together. Before school started each morning, students brought in wood and water for the day.
School District # 34 (Lofthus School) was located in the center of Section 26 of Eddy Township. The school was founded in 1889 in what was then Beltrami County. Torkel Tweite, then a bachelor, moved in with a neighbor and let his home be used for a schoolhouse for many years. The first teacher was Grace Krovik with an enrollment of 22 pupils. This school was in operation more years than any other school in Eddy Township. It closed in 1950 with the north half going to Clearbrook and the south half to Bagley. The building was then sold and made into a house by Willie and Julie Holm.
Gully School opened in 1897. The term was from May 3 to July 23 and there were 33 pupils. Slates were used and their blackboards consisted of boards painted black.

The Brovold School #264 was located in Sec. 10 of Johnson Township and opened in 1902. The first schoolhouse burned in 1933. Sanna Brovold was the last teacher and received $50 and month for an 8 month tern. They held Christmas plays and track and field events. The school closed in 1939.
Taflin School District #37 was located in Sect 26 of Pine Lake Township and opened in 1902. In 1942 they consolidated with Gonvick. Albert Aaknes bought the school in 1953 and moved it to Trail where it became their home.
The first Clover school was started in the Karl Storbekken home. Children attended there until the log schoolhouse, which served both East and West Clover, was built on the banks of Schoolhouse Lake. This school was in operation until about 1914. The West Clover School District 16 began with a donation of one acre of land from Patrick Kelly on May 13, 1914. The school operated until the 50's when it consolidated with Clearbrook. The building was remodeled and serves as the Clover Town Hall.

Leon Township had 2 schools by 1902 and the Rydeen School was built in 1904. The District #20 school (Rydeen School-Leon Township) consolidated with Clearbrook in 1958. The members of the last District #20 class were: Linda, Daryl and David Tveitbakk, David Engebretson, David Knutson, Loretta Torgerson, Victor Thompson, George and Nancy Postier, Lorna Torgerson, Ray Bardwell, Neil and Doris Fittje, Mary, Eileen, Eloise, Jerry and Merle Olson. The building is still in use today as the Leon Town Hall. (Info from "School Days, District # 20 by Mrs. James Moen). Correction: District # 20 consolidated in 1957. Darrell Engebretson was also a member of the last class.
Pine Dale (Djerness) School District #53 is thought to have begun around 1914. It was located in the northwestern part of Section 8 in Holst Township. Grades 1-8 were taught and if students wished to continue their education they had to pass their State Board tests. They then attended school in either Clearbrook or Bagley. Sophie Postier taught at Pine Dale from 1950-1952 and Harriet Holm taught in 1952-1953 after which the school consolidated with Clearbrook in the fall of 1953.
